![]() ![]() Had a little bit of confusion finding the. It seemed to be open later than any of the other non-fast-food restaurants in Childress, so we stopped by a little after 6 pm. We stopped at Top Notch after a long day traveling from Gallup, NM. I hope that the managers, when they read this review, take a long, hard, look at their BBQ style, and learn to do BBQ the Texas way. We will not be going back to this restaurant, even though we pass through this town twice a year. Someone let it slip that the BBQ sauce is bought in giant jugs, in bulk, which may be why only one BBQ is available. We were told that this is the only BBQ that they have, one sauce is unheard of in a BBQ restaurant in Texas. We tried to fix the meat with BBQ sauce, which was how we found out that they have exactly one BBQ sauce. The lack of salt in the meats and pinto beans may have been because they dumped all of the salt they had in the kitchen into my green beans. There was no seasoning in my husband's pinto beans, just a couple of chopped bits of jalapeño. I had the green beans and my husband had the pinto beans. The meats were not even salted, which brings me to the sides. There was no rub anywhere to be seen on the meats. The bun that my husband's pulled pork was served on was terribly stale. The brisket appear to have had the fat cut off, possibly before it was cooked, drying it out further. The pulled pork and the brisket were very dry. sandwich, and I ordered the brisket and the jalapeño sausage. I have never had bad Texas BBQ, ever, until this restaurant. I am giving this restaurant 2 stars because their staff were very good, if it was not for the staff, I would rate this BBQ 1 star, grudgingly.
